    Julian Assange. Lest we regret.

"It is, I think, expedient to set forth to all mankind the reasons by which I was convinced that the fabrication of the christians is a fiction of men composed by wickedness. Though it has in it nothing divine, by making full use of that part of the soul which loves fable and is childish and foolish, it has induced men to believe that the monstrous tale is truth." ... There's a fucking lot more on trial here than a miserable bloke who's tired out from living in a broom closet.

The case against Julian Assange has the potential to set a larger precedent about the extraterritorial reach of the US.

If the UK capitulates to America's arrogated right to extradite Julian Assange where he would die in prison, and Australia quietly acquiesces in this by inaction, since Assange is an Australian citizen, this will occasion one more significant step toward Despotic Leviathan.

The lovely folk at Belmarsh seem to be going out of their way to be pricks.

There is a faint hope in the tail of the article:
Assange has already served a 50-week prison sentence in Britain for jumping bail. A rape investigation launched against him in Sweden has been dropped, so he would likely be freed from prison if extradition is denied.
